Bruce Pearl: “Not that much longer,” talks future as coach
By JAMES MADDEN
Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl, fresh off a second career Final Four appearance, sat down with CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein and discussed his future as a head coach. Rothstein asked him straightforwardly, “How much longer do you want to do this?”
“Not that much longer, Jon. I think it’s kind of a balance of life, of time, of work. I love Auburn. I truly do. Auburn’s been unbelievable for us and our family,” Pearl said. “Part of the thing is I also want to do it when I’m on top of my game. Coaches, we want to be on the top of our game because we owe that to our players and our fans. As you get a little bit older, you kind of take it one day at a time.
Pearl has been recently mentioned in rumblings about a potential run for a senate seat in the state of Alabama. Former Auburn football head coach Tommy Tuberville also took a similar path and has served as a senator for the state since 2021.
Bruce Pearl talked about the recent rumblings and rumors about a potential senate candidacy:
Auburn is fresh off its second Final Four appearance under Pearl and he was also named the 2025 NABC Division I Coach of the Year. The Tigers were the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament and were eliminated by the eventual national champions, the Florida Gators.
Pearl became the all-time winningest head coach in Auburn history on January 7, 2025, passing Joel Eaves with his 214th victory with the school. He has recorded 706 career wins across all levels and 477 wins at the Division 1 level. Pearl has spent 30 total seasons as a head coach with four programs: Southern Indiana, UW-Milwaukee, Tennessee and Auburn. He will also turn 66 years old in March of 2026.
Despite losing a large part of their final four nucleus, the Tigers are once again expected to be a top-25 caliber team this season. In terms of the future of Pearl’s career, a timeline still remains unclear, but his contract is reportedly set to run through the end of the 2030 season.
