Top-30 prospect Austin Goosby breaks down official visit list after stockrising summer
By SAM LANCE
NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. — Blue Blood programs have come calling for class of 2026 prospect Austin Goosby, and for good reason.
Goosby, the 6-foot-5 combo guard out of Melissa (TX), has had quite the summer with Drive Nation on the EYBL circuit, leading his squad in scoring. Across 20 games, Goosby averaged 16.0 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.7 steals while shooting 47.2% from the field. He also stood out during the TABC showcase for Melissa with multiple high-scoring outings, including a 40-point game.
The four-star has always been known as a scorer, and he can get buckets from anywhere on the court. But this summer, he’s taken other steps in his game.
“I’m trying to be more of a leader,” Goosby told ZAGSBLOG. “That’s something I want to work on more and that’s something I’m going to need to be in college. It’s just something I want to translate over to college for sure.”
Goosby credits his stockrising summer to progressing in every facet of the game. He’s become a more aggressive defender by blocking shots and has taken steps to facilitate and get his teammates open. He said he’s showed coaches he simply doesn’t give up.
“I’m really passionate about the game,” Goosby said. “Whatever I can do to get the win, I do it.”
It’s common to be an athlete in the Goosby family, but Austin has taken a different path from his father, Michael, who played in the NFL, and his brother, Trevor, who currently plays left tackle at Texas.
Due to his play this summer, Goosby has earned some big-time offers including Baylor, Duke, Miami, UCLA and more. With the summer AAU season over, Goosby’s focus will now turn to these college programs. He has several official visits set including Miami (Aug. 23), Texas (Sept. 6), Baylor (Sept. 20), BYU (Sept. 27) and Duke (Oct. 4). He just took SMU from July 28-29 and told ZAGSBLOG he won’t be making it to his previously scheduled UCLA visit for July 30-31. Arizona State is another school expected to receive a visit.
Goosby gave some brief thoughts on the programs he’ll visit to ZAGSBLOG:
SMU: “Coach [Andy] Enfield is a really good coach, NBA guy. I like their staff up there. They reach out a lot, which is really good. Close to home. So it’s good.”
UCLA: “They’re not on my official right now, but they’re still reaching out every once in a while. So they’re definitely in mind still.”
Texas: “Been around there a lot. Having my brother over there helps. But I like coach [Sean] Miller and the new staff. They reach out a lot and definitely keep in touch.”
Baylor: “Coach Scott Drew, his background speaks for itself. So he’s just a really good coach in general.”
Miami: “Coach [Jai] Lucas was actually at Duke when he recruited me. So he’s a really good coach and is going to turn that program around.”
BYU: “Coach [Kevin] Young, he has an NBA staff up there. So a lot of the things that he does are tailored to the NBA, so it’s really good.”
Duke: “Knowing their background, there’s not too much to say. Coach [Jon] Scheyer just had Cooper Flagg go to the league, No. 1 in the draft. So his resume speaks for itself already. [The offer] was pretty surreal. Growing up watching them play, all the championships, it’s just crazy getting the offer.”
Goosby hasn’t given much thought to a decision timeline and said if a program stands out while visiting, that’s probably who he’ll pick. He added there’s some advantages to having a long visit list.
“I’ll know exactly what I want by the end of it,” Goosby said. “I should have a really good idea. Taking all these visits, I’ll have a big opportunity ahead. I’ll narrow it down after I’m done with all of these.”
Mainly, Goosby is looking for a place who will develop him as a player and a person. The four-star is ranked the No. 27 overall player in the 2026 class by 247Sports.
“You could put him in any situation and he will fit,” Melissa head coach Stephen Friar previously told ZAGSBLOG. “The game is slow for him, and he understands it. He does a great job of knowing what his team needs to be successful and plugging in the holes wherever they’re lacking something. Obviously he’s a great scorer. Very athletic, and a good defender, but his best quality is he is a great teammate.”
