SBB make statement, Ruby stay perfect in Week 2 of Hoopsfix Pro-Am
Fans were treated to another action-packed day of exciting, high-octane basketball in the second week of the 2025 Hoopsfix Pro-Am Summer League at the Brixton Recreation Centre.
The state of each pool for this year’s Summer League continued to take shape with each game as there were tough, close encounters on the women’s side and some stellar collective performances across the men’s slate.
Tickets are still available for the remaining three weeks of action.
In the first matchup of the day, Team Diamond recorded a professional 43-35 team win over Team Emerald. Kat Goldsby led both teams in scoring with 14 points while Chinwe Iwuze and Helen Trailin also provided an offensive spark with eight points each.
Sophie Khlaf’s solid 11 point and seven board outing were not enough to overcome Team Emerald’s offensive struggles as they only managed to shoot 21% from the field for the entire game.
The second game saw Team Ruby edge out a tightly contested affair 54-48 over Team Sapphire to stay undefeated in this year’s Summer League.
Maisie Crowley finished with an 11 point, 10 rebound double-double while Ilze Holsteina had a huge impact off the bench putting up 13 points on 6/10 shooting.
Harriet Welham and Modiegi Mokoka stood out for Team Sapphire scoring 14 points and 12 points respectively but ultimately, Team Ruby pulled off clutch plays down the stretch to hold off Team Sapphire and secure the victory.
The men’s slate began with Summer League newcomers SBB making an emphatic statement to the rest of the competition after they defeated defending Summer League Champions FunctionAll with an impressive 59-47 victory.
Flynn Boardman-Raffet, who has just graduated from Memorial University in Canada, was the game’s standout performer as he notched up 23 points.
Great Britain international RJ Eytle-Rock posted 15 points and was the leading scorer for FunctionAll while Peter Turay also chipped in with 10 points.
The Surrey 89ers’ Josh Steel set the tone early in the game for SBB, who improved to 2-0 in their group, when he crossed over his defender and slammed the ball home in the first quarter.
Game number four of the afternoon saw TMB (The Minimum Brand) pull away from Basketball Nxtion in the second half as they claimed a comfortable 62-48 win.
Danny Evans and Matthew Disu were a one-two scoring punch for TMB as Evans had a game high 17 points and was followed closely by Disu’s 16 point performance. Hayden Ling also played a pivotal role on the glass as he grabbed 10 rebounds.
Basketball Nxtion meanwhile remain winless in this year’s Summer League after their shooting difficulties were laid to bare in a game where only Romario Spence reached double figures with ten points.
In the day’s fifth and penultimate game, Team Jet and Hometown Heroes went head to head in a hard fought battle as both sides vied for their first victory of the Summer League tournament.
It was Team Jet however who soared to snatch a much needed 57-46 win largely thanks to a terrific 21 point display from Damarni Velinor. Joshua Apple also came away with 12 points to leave a strong mark on the game.
Hometown Heroes showed some early signs of promise in the first half but ultimately none of their players succeeded in breaking the double-digit scoring barrier as they succumbed to their second loss of the tournament. Ashley Kitchen came closest to hitting double figures for Hometown Heroes with nine points.
To close down the curtain on the weekend, CMBC ran riot in the fourth quarter to win in emphatic fashion, 64-43, against Hoopsace and catapult themselves to the top of their group.
Reading Rockets’ Victor Olarerin finished with a game high 17 points and formed a formidable combination with James Claar who nabbed himself an 11 point showing.
Isaac Temilola had 12 points for the game and was the only player who scored at least 10 points for Hoopspace.
CMBC sent the crowd home buzzing and put an exclamation point on their blowout victory with just over four minutes left when Ty Nsangu threw down a dunk in open play that was set up off the glass by Juan Manning.
Tickets are still available for the remaining three weeks of the Pro-Am – here.
