What an awful end to a brilliant season for Haliburton

During the 2024 Olympics, U.S. basketball coach Steve Kerr took a lot of heat for sitting both former Duke star Jayson Tatum and Tyrese Haliburton. Kerr argued that he had to have a rotation and those were more or less the breaks. It worked out - the U.S. won gold - but a lot of people were really unhappy about it.

Fast forward to this year’s playoffs and Tatum and Haliburton have something else in common: they both appear to have suffered serious Achilles injuries.

Tatum suffered his earlier in the playoffs against New York while Haliburton apparently blew his out in Game 7 against Oklahoma City Saturday night.

We say apparently because while his father confirmed the suspicions, he’s not a doctor and the official verdict hasn’t been announced.

That said, it’s pretty clearly an Achilles injury and the question now is how severe it is.

It seems particularly cruel because Haliburton had a phenomenal season and looked as if he might be able to lift his team past the Thunder to pull off an amazing championship.

All that was pulled away with his Achilles injury, which clearly deflated his team.

It’s possible that Tatum and Haliburton could be good friends, maybe bonding over their Olympic frustrations, and perhaps they can support each other or possibly even rehab together.

It just seems cruel, but things happen. Life happens, really. What matters now is how Haliburton approaches his rehab. Best of luck to both him and of course Tatum as they start to work their way back.
