You Tube Gold: Former Blue Devils Robert Brickey On His Recruiting Experience
One of the early surprises of the Krzyzewski era, Brickey always played much taller than he was.
When Mike Krzyzewski got his Duke program off the ground, the Class of 1986 laid the groundwork and that really was the key for the program.
Things couldn’t stop there though and the players who came in the next few years after that were really important to keeping Duke near the top of the sport. The core of the team for the next few years after 1986 were Danny Ferry, Billy King, Kevin Strickland, Quin Snyder, John Smith and Robert Brickey.
Brickey grew up in Fayetteville and in this video, he talks about how he came to be recruited by Duke.
He says he was focused on Wake Forest until Carl Tacey departed and he didn't have any faith in his successor, Bob Staack. His take on Staack here is pretty shrewd, not least of all for a high school senior.
And his take on how Coach K and his dad bonded as former military guys is interesting too.
He has some really smart things to say here so take a few minutes to appreciate #21.
