Rounding up all Warriors and NBA related news for Wednesday, May 14th.
In today’s Dub Hub:
- Steph Curry is “making good progress” on his left hamstring strain and will be re-evaluated Saturday prior to a potential Game 6 on Sunday.
- In an interview with 95.7 The Game, Steve Kerr says he expects Jimmy Butler to have a ‘big game’ facing potential elimination against the Timberwolves in Game 5.
- Celtics confirm Jayson Tatum suffered a ruptured right Achilles tendon during Game 4 loss against the Knicks.
The Golden State Warriors shared an update on Stephen Curry’s strained left hamstring ahead of Wednesday’s must-win matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves. While the two-time MVP has already been ruled out for tonight’s Game 5, the team announced that Curry is making “good progress” and has been cleared to resume light on-court activity.

Facing a 3-1 series deficit, Golden State is clinging to any sign of hope. Curry’s potential return offers a glimmer—but first, they’ll have to find a way to survive at least one more game without him.

Warriors’ Steph Curry cleared to shoot, will be re-evaluated ahead of potential Game 6 | The Athletic
But Curry hasn’t tested his hamstring in a high-torque, full-speed way that’ll deliver him and Rick Celebrini the true answer about whether it’s feasible for him to return for Game 6. They don’t know yet. They may never need to know the answer. If they get eliminated Wednesday night, Curry will spend the early part of his offseason slowly allowing his hamstring to heal.
But if they do win Wednesday, extending the series four extra days, I do believe he will test his hamstring to a greater degree during the long break to reappear Sunday. That’s why the Warriors announced a Saturday re-evaluation. — Anthony Slater, Warriors senior writer

Kerr praises ‘ball player’ Podz amid historic playoff shooting slump | NBC Sports Bay Area
Coach Steve Kerr discussed Tuesday on 95.7 The Game’s “Willard and Dibs” why Podziemski remains valuable to his strategy, even while experiencing a shooting slump, ahead of the must-win Game 5 against the Timberwolves on Wednesday in Minnesota.
“The confidence in the shot right now is not there, but let me tell you something: This guy is a ball player,” Kerr told Mark Willard and Dan Dibley.
“Every game, you look at the plus/minus at the end of the game, and he’s at or near the top for our team. He does so many other things besides shooting that are crucial for us.”

Despite his talent, Kuminga’s propensity to look for his shot at the expense of the flow of Golden State’s offense has irked the coaching staff. During a late-season game against the Blazers, team sources say Kerr was incensed after several instances in which Kuminga looked off Curry to create his own offense. Kuminga subsequently received DNPs in the Warriors’ regular-season finale against the Clippers and then again in their play-in matchup against the Grizzlies. By the start of the playoffs, many within the organization wondered whether Kuminga, who is eligible for an extension, had played his last game as a Warrior.

Donovan Mitchell can’t believe Cavs’ exit: ‘Let city down’ | ESPN
“I’ll go to bat for every guy in that locker room,” Mitchell said. “Winning is not easy. Some things have to go right. You got to play well, got to capitalize on opportunities. ... We have a window with this group, I believe in everybody in here, we believe in each other. That’s what sucks, we’re a good team. And for five games ... we didn’t show what we’re capable of. And ultimately that’s what we’re judged on.
“So get in the gym, weight room, nutrition, whatever it is, and get back at it. Because y’all are going to write us the f--- off man. We’ll be back. Let the city down, let each other down. But we’ll be back.”
What we’re hearing about Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks | The Athletic
The Dallas Mavericks — somehow — landed the No. 1 pick on Monday night and could now entertain the prospect of putting it on the table for someone of Antetokounmpo’s ilk. We have previously reported that Mavericks GM Nico Harrison, architect of the Luka Dončić trade, is expected to be in win-now/defense-wins-championships/Nike-superstar mode again this summer. Giannis checks all of those boxes.

In case you missed it at Golden State of Mind:
Warriors need to sort out secret identities before Game 5 with Timberwolves
Let’s clarify. If Curry is Batman and Butler is Robin, Hield can still be Alfred. Kerr is Commissioner Gordon. Nikola Jokic is the Joker. Jordan Poole is Jason Todd, the Robin who died. Kevon Looney is Lucius Fox. Jonathan Kuminga is Jean-Paul Valley, aka Azrael, because he’s powerful and skilled but unpredictable. Azrael was Batman’s replacement when Bane broke his back. Draymond Green is Bane.
