We might not be talking enough about Justin Thomas at the PGA Championship

Justin Thomas deserves more talk ahead of the PGA Championship.

Ask the obvious question and you will get one of three possible answers.

Question: Who do you think is going to win the PGA Championship?

Answer: It’s either going to be Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy or Bryson DeChambeau.

To be clear, there is no faulty logic at play here. Scottie, Rory and Bryson are perhaps the three best golfers in the world right now. Taking them against the field is arguably the better play.

Beyond this being the sport of golf where crazy things happen, it feels like we are not talking enough about Justin Thomas. You are aware that JT is a 2-Time PGA Champion in his own right, including the person who won it the last time Quail Hollow hosted before this week, but you might not be giving enough credit to his recent form.

The PGA Championship has historically been JT’s best throughout his career. Since winning it in 2017 at Quail Hollow he has three other finishes inside of the top 10, including winning it again in 2022.

This season alone Thomas has 6 finishes inside of the top 10 in 11 total starts, including a playoff win over Andrew Novak at the RBC Heritage. He is coming off of a T2 finish at the Truist Championship... his game is in a really, really good place right now.

For what it’s worth oddsmakers are not falling for the chum in the water that are the major storylines surrounding Scheffler, McIlroy and DeChambeau. Thomas sits fifth in odds to win at Quail Hollow and is even ahead of defending champion Xander Schauffele. JT also sits fifth in the professional rankings at Data Golf so that tracks.

It makes sense to pick one of the top guys this weekend, don’t get me wrong.

Just don’t forget that Justin Thomas is one of them, too.
