Lawrence Journal-World’s Greenstein talks KU men’s basketball transfers on K-Nation

TOPEKA (KSNT) – After a down season by KU men's basketball's standards, fans have wondered how Bill Self and crew plan to reshape the roster.

Lawrence Journal-World sports editor Henry Greenstein joined K-Nation in-studio to discuss the three incoming transfers, and who else he'd like to see the Jayhawks target in the portal.

Of the three transfers, none of them are necessarily considered "stars." K-Nation's Landon Reinhardt asked if this was by design with top prospect Darryn Peterson coming to campus.

"For one thing, I lot of players in the portal are looking to be 'the guy' wherever they go," Greenstein said. "KU is kind of having to pick and choose players that are still accomplished, but are content with being a second or third option."

The latest Jayhawk commit is Melvin Council Jr., a senior from St. Bonaventure that Bill Self has compared to Tyshawn Taylor. K-Nation's Caroline Soro asked Greenstein what he expects out of the 6-foot-4 combo guard.

"This is a guy who has basically had to scrap for everything that he's gotten in his basketball career," Greenstein said. "This is a guy who takes defense seriously, he's accomplished at driving to the rim, the main knock on him is he isn't a very good shooter. Effectively a 30 percent three-point shooter."

Greenstein also discussed Illinois transfer Trey White and who else he hopes the Jayhawks target in the transfer portal.

The full conversation with Greenstein aired in Sunday’s episode of K-Nation and can be watched above. K-Nation airs every Sunday night following 27 News at 10, only on KSNT.
