Haeran Ryu had the putter going on Thursday at the Chevron.

It took a little bit of Friday, but the LPGA Tour’s first major championship of the year finally wrapped up its first round. Haeran Ryu and Yan Liu are tied for the lead after one at the Chevron Championship.

Friday promises to be more hectic and filled with more activity thanks to Thursday’s weather delay, but whatever happens it stands to reason that Haeran Ryu is going to keep rolling things well.

Consider that of her score of 65 in the first round that only 24 of them were putts. That is unreal.

Ryu’s 65 was her lowest round of the season which is not hard to believe given how insane it is. Sometimes when the putter is going it can lead to some low scores and she certainly took proper advantage.

Haeran spoke to her putter change following her round and noted how practice played a huge role in her success.

“After the Match Play we have a week off, off week, only one week, so I was to practice a lot that putter. But I’m not sure to trust for that putter on the JM Eagle, so first round I’m not use that. But my score is too bad first round and I just change it on the second round. It’s pretty good day again. Yeah, and then I can trust it. I can change the putter this week.”

The results suggest that the change was the right decision!
