Auburn adds Texas Tech transfer guard Kevin Overton
By SAM LANCE
Former Texas Tech guard Kevin Overton is transferring to Auburn, per his Instagram page.
Overton — the 6-foot-5, 200-pound guard from Oklahoma City — averaged 7.8 points and 3.7 rebounds for the Red Raiders last season while shooting 42.2% from the field and 39-of-118 (33.1%) from 3-point range.
The guard played his freshman season at Drake before transferring to Texas Tech last year. As a Bulldog, Overton averaged 11.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.1 assists. He started every game for Drake and shot 34.6% from deep on over five attempts per game.
Bruce Pearl now has a transfer portal class of Overton, former Mississippi State forward KeShawn Murphy and former UCF guard Keyshawn Hall. Those three will be newcomers with JUCO commits Abdul Bashir and Emeka Opurum and 2025 commits Kaden Magwood, Sebastian Williams-Adams and Simon Walker.
Auburn could be getting back Tahaad Pettiford for his sophomore season if he decides to withdraw from the NBA Draft. It’s also notable that Chad Baker-Mazara entered the transfer portal on Thursday, as well as JP Pegues.
