Tobi Lawal declares for 2025 NBA Draft

Great Britain and Virginia Tech forward Tobi Lawal has announced on Instagram that he will look to enter the 2025 NBA Draft while still maintaining his college eligibility.

The 6’8 junior started 30 games in his first year in Blacksburg after transferring from VCU and posted season averages of 12.4 points and 7.0 rebounds while shooting 55.9% from the field and 37.1% from three, as per ESPN.

Lawal, known for his incredible athleticism, shared the following message on Instagram regarding his decision: “First and foremost, I want to thank God for putting me in this position and guiding me on this journey.

“I have decided to enter the 2025 NBA Draft while maintaining my college eligibility.

“If I decide to return to college, I will be playing my final season in Blacksburg and proudly wearing the maroon and orange.”

The London born Lawal has steadily improved throughout his college career having seen increases in his points per game, rebounds per game and minutes per game output each year.

In this past season for the Hokies, the CoLA basketball product reached double figures in scoring on 20 occasions and amassed at least 20 points in four outings, whilst also leading the team in points, rebounds, blocks, field goals made, free throws made, and double doubles, per hokiesports.com.

After enjoying arguably his best year of college basketball yet playing under head coach Mike Young, Lawal will now have the chance to travel to Chicago and showcase his abilities and potential at the NBA G League Combine from May 9-11 and the NBA Draft Combine from May 11-18.

He will also be afforded the opportunity to receive an evaluation from the NBA Undergraduate Advisory Committee and has until May 28 to decide if he wants to remove his name from the NBA Draft and return to college.
