What to watch for
This could have been fun
This matchup could have been so much more enticing. Two players who should be in a generational battle for defensive player of the year could have been showing off their prowess.
That dream was shattered when it was announced shortly after the All-star break that Victor Wembenyama was shut down with deep vein thrombosis. This put Evan Mobley into the front of the conversation to claim the award this season. However, the irony is that Mobley will not be suiting up for this game due to rest.
This is an obvious bummer for both fan bases and national fans as well as we were robbed of what could have been a sensational battle.
Breaking bad habits
Fans of the Cavaliers know that in recent seasons that they have limped into the postseason. It hasn’t exactly been for one reason, whether it has been injuries or quality of play this team has turned in poor form as the regular season comes to a close.
This recent west coast trip has raised similar concerns as a team that once appeared impenetrable has become mortal very quickly. Now, that being said, the Cavaliers have won their last two games. However, it would be a stretch to say that wins against the Jazz and Blazers are inspiring.
Unfortunately, a win against the battered Spurs will not restore faith either. The Cavaliers have all quality opponents left on the schedule that will be better indicators if this team is back on track.
