Frewsburg girls, Panama boys advance to basketball state championship games

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- The Frewsburg Bears and Panama Panthers have moved one step closer to the top of the mountain on their state title hunts.

Frewsburg will play Stillwater from Section II in the NYPSHSAA Class C girls basketball final at 7:45 p.m. Friday at Hudson Valley Community College. This is repeat Section VI champions' first appearance in a state title game. After losing in the state semifinals last season, Frewsburg won 69-45 against Tuckahoe from Section I on Thursday night. Ava Jimerson led the Bears with 19 points and Jadyn Trocki scored 14.

In boys basketball, Panama will take on Bridgehampton from Section XI at 6 p.m. Saturday in the NYSPHSAA Class D final at Visons Veterans Memorial Arena in Binghamton. The Panthers won 74-53 against Sackets Harbor from Section III on Friday. Carter Brink scored 31 points to lead Panama.

Two more Section VI teams will play NYSPHSAA semifinal games: Williamsville South girls in Class A at 3:15 p.m. Friday, and the Lancaster girls in Class AAA at 3:15 p.m. Saturday.

The Jamestown boys lost 50-39 against Port Washington from Section VIII on Thursday night.
