SMU picks up commitment from Brown transfer Nana Owusu-Anane
By SAM LANCE
Brown graduate transfer Nana Owusu-Anane has committed to SMU, per Joe Tipton of On3.
Owusa-Anane — the 6-foot-8, 220-pound power forward from Ontario — suffered a partially torn labrum prior to the season that required surgery. He did not play in 2024-25, but stayed at Brown and was a team captain. He entered his name into the portal in December and was seeking a graduate year since the Ivy League doesn’t allow that.
In three seasons at Brown, Owusa-Anane has averaged 10.8 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. The power forward averaged 14.7 points and 8.8 rebounds in 2023-24 while shooting 46.8% from the field.
Owusu-Anane had a top eight and considered Arizona State, Baylor, Grand Canyon, Kansas, Kansas State, Louisville and San Diego State, but ultimately decided on SMU. Andy Enfield and the Mustangs have quite the high school class to add to Owusu-Anane, including four-star big man Jaden Toombs, four-star small forward Jermaine O’Neal Jr., four-star power forward Nigel Walls and three-star forward BJ Davis-Ray.
