As the regular season is down to the last few days

In Tuesday’s ACC Action, Miami visits Georgia Tech, UNC goes to Cassell to take on the Hokies, Florida State and Virginia tangle in Charlottesville and Syracuse and SMU go at it in Dallas.

Miami is just playing out the string at this point. We can’t see them upsetting a tough Georgia Tech team that’s somehow now 15-14 despite a ton of injuries. Miami may be at the point where they’d just like to get things over with. They close out with equally suffering NC State and they might win that one. But Tech? Nah.

Well, you might rule NC State out too as Lynne Kidd and Paul Djobet both have sprained ankles. This team has no margin for error.

UNC needs to continue winning to sneak into the field and losing at Virginia Tech would be a major setback. Virginia Tech has won two of its last three and pushed Louisville in the loss, so they’re playing better.

The Hokies may actually match up fairly well with UNC and if Jaden Schutt gets his Duke blood up, like Jaylen Blakes did when Stanford nipped the Heels in the Dean Dome, who knows? He was sick for some time and then lit Syracuse up for 20 on Saturday.

Logically, you’d take Carolina. ACC logic would suggest an upset. You pick.

FSU and Virginia is a battle between two short timers in Leonard Hamilton and Ron Sanchez. Virginia has improved and Florida State has had some moments. FSU has better talent, and is much bigger, so we’d probably take them here, although it’s always been a miserable road team under Hamilton.

Syracuse is having a miserable season too at just 12-17 and SMU has really had a great debut season in the ACC. Currently 21-8, the Mustangs have sort of proven our argument about hiring the right guy. Andy Enfield is a gifted coach, particularly offensively. We’d be really surprised if the Orange pulls off an upset on the road.

Hubert Davis and UNC recently revealed that Davis has been given an extension, but it hasn’t gone over well in all quarters. We don’t know who this ACC coach is, and you could take it as a negative or a positive, but the anonymous coach said this about the Tar Heels: “This is the least talented Carolina team we will ever play.”
