The Warriors made a blockbuster trade with the Heat, acquiring Jimmy Butler without giving up the farm.

The Warriors got a blockbuster deal done before the NBA trade deadline. The Golden State Warriors have agreed to a trade with the Miami Heat, acquiring Jimmy Butler while parting with Andrew Wiggins, Dennis Schröder, Kyle Anderson, Lindy Waters, and the Warriors 2025 first-round pick (top-10 protected), according to a report by Shams Charania of ESPN. Following the move, the Warriors reportedly agreed to a two-year, $121 million extension with Butler through the 2026-27 season.

Anthony Slater, Sam Amick, and Marcus Thompson of The Athletic reported first that the two sides were nearing a deal. Marc Stein had reported earlier in the day that the Warriors had shifted their focus to Butler after Phoenix Suns wing Kevin Durant expressed disinterest in a trade. The Warriors and Heat are also sending guards Lindy Waters and Josh Richardson to the Detroit Pistons. The Heat are redirecting Schröder to the Utah Jazz. Reports suggested the Heat were redirecting Anderson to the Toronto Raptors, but that has since fallen through.

Butler had expressed a strong desire to land in Phoenix with the Suns, reportedly telling the Warriors was unwilling to negotiate an extension with them earlier this week. However, with Miami forced to lower its asking price given the frayed relationship, and the Suns unable to find a trade partner to take on Bradley Beal, Butler likely was willing to sign with Golden State over staying in Miami longer.

Despite the tumultuous season Butler has still put up solid numbers when on the floor with Miami. He has averaged 17.0 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 1.1 steals in 30.6 minutes per game across 25 games with the Heat. Now, he will look to team up with Curry and help the Warriors make another deep postseason run.
