LeBron James ‘committed’ to Lakers after Luka Dončić trade

LeBron James has consistently maintained his commitment to the Lakers and that hasn’t changed now that Luka Dončić is on the team.

The news of the Luka Dončić and Anthony Davis trade broke on Saturday, but Lakers players have yet to discuss the move with the media.

After the Lakers beat the Clippers on Tuesday, players were asked about the blockbuster deal.

When LeBron James shared his thoughts after the game, he called the move “surreal” and said he “thought it was a hoax.”

James was also asked for the thousandth time if he still wanted to remain a Laker and, as he has reiterated for the past seven seasons, Los Angeles is where he will play basketball.

“I’m here right now,” James said postgame. “I’m here right now. I’m committed to the Lakers organization. I’m here to help Luka and Maxi make the transition as smooth as possible…As a leader of the team, as one of the captains of the team, it’s my job to make it as seamless as possible.”

LeBron has a no-trade clause, so he can only take his talents elsewhere if he so desires. Unlike AD, he can't be traded in a shocking deal.

Every time James has been asked about leaving the Lakers, he has stated he wants to remain here and he’s backed that up by signing three contracts in Los Angeles.

Just this past December, he described retiring as a Laker as “the plan.” Now we know that the arrival of Dončić hasn’t changed that vision and Lakers fans can rest assured this new duo will get a chance to contend for a title this season at the very least.

While LeBron is the oldest player in the NBA, he’s still playing at an elite level.

He’s averaging 24.1 points, 7.6 rebounds and 9.1 assists per game, is named an All-Star starter and will be paired with Luka, who is averaging 28.1 points, 8.3 rebounds and 7.8 assists per game.

That’s a formidable duo and can create a scenario that rejuvenates an already great LeBron to make one final push for a championship before he calls it quits.
