Five-star guard Alijah Arenas commits to USC
By SAM LANCE
Alijah Arenas, the son of prolific NBA scorer and three-time All-Star Gilbert Arenas, has committed to USC, he announced live on his father’s podcast.
The five-star guard out of Chatsworth (CA) and the Compton Magic Adidas 3SSB AAU program chose the Trojans over his other finalists of Arizona, Louisville, Kansas and Kentucky. Arenas was originally a member of the 2026 class before reclassifying to 2025 in early January. He’ll turn 18 in March and will be eligible for the 2026 NBA Draft.
“For me it felt like the best fit,” Arenas said during his announcement. “Going on campus, seeing how being at USC was like, it just made me feel special. And then I talked to the coach later on kind of like going on and seeing what I could possibly be in. It was just amazing to me so I think that I can really go and play for USC.”
Eric Musselman coached Gilbert Arenas while he was the head coach of the Golden State Warriors from 2002-04. Now, he’ll get the opportunity to coach his son. Arenas called Musselman on FaceTime to announce his decision.
Recently, Arenas was named a McDonald’s All-American and he’ll play on the West roster. He’s known as a scorer, just like his father, and is ranked the No. 10 player in the 2025 class by 247Sports.

USC and Musselman now have a trio of talented guards committed in the 2025 class, including Arenas and two four-stars in Jerry Easter and Elzie Harrington.
