Arkansas freshman Boogie Fland likely to miss remainder of season with thumb injury

By ADAM ZAGORIA

Arkansas freshman point guard Boogie Fland is likely to miss the remainder of the season with a thumb injury, a source confirmed to ZAGSBLOG.

“Strong possibility,” said a source close to the situation.

Jon Rothstein first reported that the 6-foot-2 Fland, a projected first-round pick in this year’s NBA Draft, “will miss the remainder of the 2024-25 season due to a hand injury.”

The Bronx, NY native and former Archbishop Stepinac star is averaging 15.1 points and 5.7 assists for the Razorbacks (11-7, 0-5 SEC). He leads the SEC in assist-to-turnover ratio.

The news is a major blow for head coach John Calipari, whose team is winless in the SEC in his first season since departing Kentucky.

Fland suffered the injury Jan. 11 in a 71-63 loss to Florida when teammate Billy Richmond fell on his hand.

“His hand is pretty bad,” Calipari said Jan 18 after the loss to Missouri. “Don’t know what we’ll do going forward. But we gotta make sure we get that right.

Arkansas assistant Chin Coleman said DJ Wagner, Johnell Davis and Richmond would have to take on larger roles without Fland

“Obviously, it’s natural for DJ to move into that role,” Coleman said. “He’s done it his whole life. He’s done it in his career. So it’s an easy fix for him just moving to that role. But committee wise, Johnell will have to take some of that responsibility, and Billy Richmond, who has played that position some in high school. It’s different obviously on this level. But he has played the position so we’re going to ask for him to take some of that.”
