Check out how much she’s raised so far - it’s pretty amazing!

As you guys may know, our pal Bethany Peters is passionate about helping poor parts of the world bring water online and the changes that can make for a culture. She’s about to do something extremely cool - she’s going to run in the 2025 Tokyo Marathon! Please read her post and consider supporting her by buying a ticket for a drawing. And what’s the prize? That would be a Jon Scheyer-signed basketball!

First of all, thank you to everyone who has donated in the past to my World Vision fundraisers. For the Berlin marathon which I completed in September we raised $46,870 with the help of a Duke Basketball contest, which represents life-changing water for 937 people.

I am again raising money for Team World Vision as I train for the 2025 TOKYO MARATHON! I have secured a Jon Scheyer-signed Duke basketball to raffle off for my fundraiser to bring clean water and sanitation to communities in developing countries. Each $10 donation will procure one entry into the raffle. The raffle will be drawn on Saturday, February 13th at 7:00 PM Central Time - Coach K’s 78th birthday. When making the donation, write “Duke” in the comments section.

I am passionate about helping to end world poverty by starting with clean water. World Vision believes the global water crisis can be solved in our lifetime - with your support. Women and girls, who bear the daily burden of carrying water for their families, gain the freedom to attend school or start businesses when clean water becomes accessible. WATER is a powerful force for change, transforming lives in the world’s most vulnerable communities. In the current landscape, we all know how important water is for putting out raging fires. It is also a building block for life for the 10% in the world who still lack access don’t have.

This will be my fourth marathon and my fourth World Major. I turned 50 this year, and with a total knee replacement two years ago, this will be my second marathon post-surgery. If I come close to reaching my Tokyo fundraising goal, I’ll be on the verge of hitting a lifetime fundraising total of $200,000 with TWV.

Will you join me on this incredible journey, one step at a time? I can’t do it without people like you.

800 children under age 5 die every day from diarrhea caused by contaminated water, poor sanitation, and improper hygiene. But we can make a difference through simple generosity. $50 = clean water for 1 person.

An African proverb declares, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” A motto of Team World Vision is “go farther together”.

Go Devils!

Bethany, PhD ‘02
