The Auburn basketball fans can breathe a sigh of relief.

Senior forward Johni Broome won’t need surgery after suffering a serious ankle injury in Saturday’s win over South Carolina.

“Auburn senior All-American Johni Broome underwent an MRI this morning which revealed a non-surgical, ankle sprain,” the school announced.

No timetable was given on Broome’s injury but he’s expected to miss at least a couple of weeks.

The 6-foot-10 Broome is the leading contender for National Player of the Year while averaging 17.9 points and 10.7 rebounds.

Duke’s Cooper Flagg exploded for 42 points in Saturday’s win over Notre Dame, and could take control of National Player of the Year honors in Broome’s absence.

“Broome leads now, but Flagg is ascending and has the better runway,” ESPN’s Jay Bilas said.
