Darius Garland moves up NBA All-Star voting list
Garland moves up to ninth, replacing Boston’s Derrick White on the list.
Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Darius Garland, a notable omission from the first round of All-Star voting returns, is now listed 9th for Eastern Conference guards. Garland, who made his first All-Star Game in 2021-2022 when the festivities were in Cleveland, replaced Boston’s Derrick White, who fell out of the top ten.

There is no question that Garland is having an All-Star caliber season, averaging 20.4 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 6.7 assists per game on 49.4% shooting and 42.9% from three-point land. Those are also markedly better than last season, especially the shooting efficiency. His shooting percentages this season are even higher than what he put up in his other All-Star season.
Garland’s appearance on the list should not come as any surprise, and he may continue climbing up the list as the Cavs continue to gain national exposure. Last night’s heavyweight bout against Oklahoma City put Garland and the Cavs in the spotlight - and they delivered with a 129-122 win. Garland is just around 20k votes behind Jordan Poole for 8th on the list, though he sits more than 150k votes behind Detroit’s Cade Cunningham for 7th on the list. That will be a more challenging amount to overcome in terms of the fan vote. Miami’s Tyler Herro sits 15k votes behind Garland at 10th on the list.
It's worth noting that the fan vote is only 50% of the All-Star picture. Players and the media have a say too, with each accounting for 25% as well. January 10th is a “3-for-1” day, meaning one vote counts as three. You can vote for NBA All-Stars here.
