Golden State basketball is on the way! Come join our game thread and chat about tonight’s matchup here.

The Golden State Warriors tip-off 2025 with a Thursday night home matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers. The game will be played at 7:00PM PT in San Francisco and can be watched on TNT.

Previously with the Warriors:

Golden State suffered their 16th loss of the season on Monday night, falling back down to .500 after a 113-95 defeat to the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavaliers, led by the dynamic backcourt duo of Darius Garland and Donovan Mitchell, dominated the Warriors for the second time this season, outscoring them by a combined 37 points over two matchups.

Despite holding a slim lead after the first quarter, Golden State collapsed offensively in the second quarter, managing only 11 points as Cleveland seized control of the game from there. Stephen Curry, who finished with just 11 points on the night, acknowledged the team’s mediocrity in his postgame remarks.

What to watch for tonight:

Golden State hopes to leave their late-2024 struggles in the rearview mirror as they open 2025 with a matchup against the 76ers. The Warriors started the season strong at 12-3 but have stumbled through a 4-13 stretch to close the year, plagued by offensive woes.

In December, they recorded a league-worst true shooting percentage of 52.3%, with their role players failing to reproduce their early-season shooting performances. Notably, Buddy Hield has hit a slump, shooting a combined 1-of-15 from the field, including 0-of-10 from beyond the arc, over his last two games. However, head coach Steve Kerr remains confident, stating that Hield is just one hot game away from regaining his form.

Tonight’s matchup against Philadelphia offers a chance for the Warriors to find their rhythm. The 76ers, 13-18 and 11th in the Eastern Conference, have dealt with struggles of their own this season as injuries have cause inconsistency throughout their rotation. They will also be on the second night of a back-to-back after a tough loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday night, however, they’re expected to have center Joel Embiid back in the lineup after he was rested last night.

For Golden State, regaining confidence will require capitalizing on Philly’s defensive vulnerabilities, as the 76ers allow the fifth-highest opponent field goal percentage in the league. With both teams struggling, the Warriors must seize this opportunity to set a positive tone for the new year.
