Golden State basketball is on the way! Come join our game thread and chat about tonight’s matchup here.

The Golden State Warriors begin a two-game road back-to-back starting with Friday night’s matchup against the New Orleans Pelicans. The game will be played at 4:30 PM PT in New Orleans and can be watched on ESPN and NBC Sports Bay Area.

Previously with the Warriors:

Golden State responded emphatically to their previous loss, dominating the Atlanta Hawks in a 120-97 blowout on Wednesday night. The Warriors got off to a commanding 41-22 lead in the first quarter highlighted by a 24-2 run where Atlanta had no answers on either end of the floor.

The Warriors controlled the game for the rest of the night with starting small forward Andrew Wiggins leading the charge. He finished with a game-high 27 points, while shooting an efficient 12-of-17 from the field, including three three-pointers. After the game, Wiggins credited his hot hand to the hard work he’s put in during the offseason.

What to watch for tonight:

The Warriors are in a favorable position heading into this matchup, with only Stephen Curry (probable, left knee bursitis) and De’Anthony Melton (out for the season, ACL sprain) listed on the injury report.

However, the same can’t be said about the New Orleans Pelicans who have been hit hard by the injury bug this season. Earlier this week against the Cleveland Cavaliers, New Orleans ruled out its top eight players as they continue to navigate through all their injuries. While Brandon Ingram and Jordan Hawkins are expected to return tonight, the Pelicans remain severely shorthanded.

A victory tonight would move the Warriors to 3-0 in the NBA Cup West Group C standings. That would potentially clinch the top seed in the group if the Denver Nuggets were to also lose on Friday.

However, given these circumstances along with the Pelicans’ plethora of injuries, tonight’s game has all the makings of a classic trap game. Golden State must remain focused and avoid overlooking a New Orleans squad that will still compete against them despite having lost nine of their last 10 games.

Having said that, the Warriors have done well against sub-500 teams this season. They’ve done a good job of putting the game out of reach early and securing some extra rest by the fourth quarter—something that would be extra helpful tonight given tomorrow’s back-to-back against the San Antonio Spurs.
