As Jordan Wood and Toby Fournier impress

Duke had a tough outing at Maryland Sunday but bounced back with a solid home win in Cameron over Dayton, 84-49.

It was a solid game on both ends: Duke put six scorers in double figures, paced by Jordan Wood, who racked up 17. Freshman Toby Fournier had 15, Reigan Richardson had 12, Oluchi Okananwa had 11 and Ashlon Jackson and Vanessa de Jesus both had 10. Duke also dominated the boards, with 48 total and 19 offensive to 30 total for the Flyers and 10 offensive.

Defensively, Duke had 12 steals and held Dayton to 18-56 from the floor, including 7-21 from behind the line. The Flyers actually shot worse overall (32.1 percent) than they did from three point range (33.3 percent).

Coach Kara Lawson was impressed with her team’s effort, complimenting the rebounding and overall effort. She was particularly impressed with Wood, saying this:

“[She’s] become so much more focused, so much more disciplined, so much more locked in. Her basketball intelligence is very high. She understands not only the plays, but spacing and when to cut and a lot of things that are hard to teach players.”

With the win, Duke moves to 3-1 on the young season. Here’s more from the Duke Chronicle.
