D’Angelo Russell thinks D’Angelo Russell has impressed this preseason

When asked who has impressed during Lakers training camp, the only person D’Angelo Russell felt like mentioning was himself.

If you’re a fan of wild D’Angelo Russell quotes, another one has just been added to his greatest hits.

During Thursday’s Lakers shootaround, Russell was asked who has impressed him during training camp.

His response? Him, of course.

Only Russell could say something that makes you cringe and chuckle simultaneously.

He could’ve given a home run answer to a softball question by just hyping up Lakers rookie Dalton Knecht or giving a pat on the back to Lakers coach JJ Redick while slamming Darvin Ham again.

Russell even could’ve given the LeBron in Year 22 answer and we would’ve eaten it up like ice cream on a summer day.

Instead, he says himself and the energy in the room died.

What’s also awesome about this response from Russell is that he’s been far from great.

While Redick might’ve mentioned him having a career year this season, that certainly hasn’t been the case on the floor during the preseason.

Russell has been rough, averaging 9.8 points, 2.2 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game. He also shot an abysmal 25% from 3-point range, a far cry from his 41% average last season.

In that context, hearing him still joking around might anger or frustrate fans, but I love it.

Let D-Lo be D-Lo; I mean, it’s not like you can stop him anyway.

Even on Media Day, he came with the same snark and energy; the moment he walked into the room, he said, “Surprise, surprise,” a reference to how many thought he would be gone in the summer.

Instead of parting ways with the Lakers, Russell, like your best friend’s significant other you can’t stand, is here to stay.

Sign me up for another year of Russell, not like I have a choice.

The roller coaster he sends us on is fun and exciting.

Sure, like a ride at Six Flags, you have to wait a long time for a quick thrill, but when that moment comes, it feels like it was worth it.

A new season is finally here and I don’t know if Russell will be a Laker at the end of it or how good or bad it will be, but I’m certain of one thing: it won’t be boring.
