Golden State Warriors guard Brandin Podziemski suffered a broken nose during the team’s 111-93 preseason victory over the Detroit Pistons on Sunday night. The injury occurred in the third quarter when Podziemski was struck by an accidental elbow from teammate Trayce Jackson-Davis during a fake dribble handoff.

According to Warriors’ head coach Steve Kerr, Podziemski will be fitted for a protective mask and will miss Tuesday’s preseason game against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Although Podziemski has been known for his toughness since joining the Warriors last year, his health will be crucial heading into the upcoming season. He is expected to play a key role in the rotation, so the team will likely take a cautious approach with him until the regular season opener.

Kerr has shown confidence in the second-year guard’s versatility, utilizing him in both the starting lineup and off the bench as the team’s secondary point guard. So far this preseason, Podziemski is averaging 8.3 points per game while shooting 41.7% from the three-point line.

Second-year Warriors guard Brandin Podziemski will be fitted for a mask after he sustained a broken nose in Golden State’s preseason win over the Detroit Pistons on Sunday night at Chase Center.

Coach Steve Kerr told reporters that Podziemski won’t play in the Warriors’ preseason game against the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Not long after Waters accepted a scholarship to play basketball at Oklahoma State, he was mentoring Native American children and holding basketball clinics specifically designed for a group that can feel isolated by life on the reservation.

He has since been named “Indian of the Year” by the American Indian Exposition. He conceived the “Lindy Waters III Foundation,” whose mission is to “enhance and support Native American youth and Indigenous communities through sports, health and wellness, and leadership programs.”

Though the played sparingly for the Thunder last season, Waters was one of five finalists for the NBA’s Social Justice Champion award, named after Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Despite Green’s success in the middle of the Warriors so-called “death” lineups in their championship years, Kerr wants to limit his minutes at center. Green agrees that he is naturally a power forward, but complicating the matter is the emergence of Kuminga and Kerr’s desire to play him more — and possibly have him as a high-volume scorer alongside Curry.

If Green starts as a power forward, the only spot for Kuminga would be the small forward. However, there is uncertainty from some coaches if the fourth year player can be comfortable at the three with this group.

The Warriors are legitimately 12 deep. If Lindy Waters III continues to shoot like this (he’s 11 of 19 from the 3-point arc so far in the preseason), the Warriors could be 13 deep. That’s too many guys to play in a sensible rotation. But it gives Steve Kerr the ability to stave off a bad losing streak if and when Draymond, Curry, Wiggins, or any other important player misses a chunk of time this season.

“With our older guys and the guys getting heavy minutes, just not having a letdown when 10, 11, and 12 [are] coming in, be able to fill in the minutes and just being able to rely on each other,” Kyle Anderson said Sunday night. “That should help us throughout the long season.”

“I felt that it hyperextended, and immediately it was, all right, I need to get taken out and (looked at), but if you ask me, I’m not too concerned about it,” George told The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Philadelphia had already ruled out Joel Embiid for the rest of the preseason Sunday, as the star center continues to ramp up his conditioning and activity levels to be ready for next week’s regular-season opener at home against the Milwaukee Bucks on Oct. 23. Embiid suffered a left knee injury last season that limited him to 39 games.

The mix of the old and the “old new” (i.e., Stotts’ input) are blended with the outright new. Thanks in large part to the Warriors’ efforts to push the three-point era forward over the past decade, the concept of shooters being used as screeners has become somewhat more commonplace relative to a few years ago, where the likes of Curry and Thompson monopolized such a maneuver.

More and more teams are embracing that concept and implementing it within their own schemes. Others have put their own twists and innovations to it. But there’s nothing like the OGs running what they made famous — and putting their own spin on it when it was once thought their ideas were becoming stale and outdated.
