Quite a Friday for Jon Scheyer and Duke Basketball

There were so many links about the Boozer twins committing to Duke that we thought it was worth doing a links run. But perhaps this link might be best highlighted individually: it’s Adam Finkelstein describing Cameron Boozer’s game.

Suffice it to say: he’s going to be good, possibly unusually good.

You try not to think this too often but possibly even great.

What excites us about both brothers is that they are highly intelligent players. As you’ll see in this clip, Cayden is a really, really really smart point guard, which in some ways thrills us more than Cameron, who, at 6-9, is four inches taller.

Why?

Because while a great big guy can dominate a game, a great point guard can control it.

And to be clear, we can’t say that Cayden will be great. He has the potential to be outstanding though, and think about how rare truly brilliant point guards are.

Again, we’re not putting him in this company, but consider what these guys did during their careers:

  • Magic Johnson
  • Jason Kidd
  • Bobby Hurley
  • Cassius Winston
  • Tyus Jones
  • Steve Blake
  • Chris Corchiani
  • Ernie DiGregorio
  • Isaiah Thomas

There are very few players who can control a game the way these guys did. We don’t know if Cayden can get there or not, but there is no question that he’s unusually smart, and that’s half the battle.
