It is Scheffler’s third Tour Championship, sitting No. 1 in the FedEx Cup standings. Will the third time be the charm for him?

Welcome to Playing Through’s daily ritual — Golf Talk Today.

Each day, the crew will discuss various elements of the PGA Tour, LPGA, LIV Golf, and more.

Today, I want to talk about World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler.

This season has been historic for him, with six wins before July 1st, Green Jacket No. 2, back-to-back Players Championships, four of the eight Signature Events and winning Gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Not to mention the $29,228,357 in earnings this season. The cherry on top? The former Texas Longhorn became a dad this year as well.

Scheffler enters the Tour Championship for the third consecutive year, ranked No. 1 in the FedEx Cup standings. However, the past two years saw him cough up the title to Rory McIlroy in 2022 and Viktor Hovland in 2023.

While he contended, the 28-year-old has not gotten over the hump at the FedEx Cup season finale.

The cliche is the third time the charm, so will Scheffler be able to win for the seventh time and cap off this 2024 PGA Tour season with $25 million in bonuses?

Coming into this week, Scheffler finished T-33 at the BMW Championship and solo fourth at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.

He did not have his best stuff in Memphis but still found a way to contend. It seemed Scheffler’s back caused him problems at the second playoff event, which could be why he had the second-worst finish of the season (The first was T-41 at the U.S. Open).

All the signs indicate he is the favorite this week, so what do you think? Will Scheffler get it done and make this season one of the best in PGA Tour History?

Stay tuned for a more in-depth reasoning for why I think Scheffler will be able to get over the hump and win.
