Duke Recruiting: A Name To Keep An Eye On

Shane Battier
Shane Battier as a Blue Devil

Zeke’s old man was pretty popular at Duke in his heyday.

Of everyone who has passed through Cameron, perhaps no one has bonded with Duke fans quite as tightly as Shane Battier.

If you wanted to pick someone who embodied Duke Basketball, you could do worse than Battier. He was smart, witty and became the face of Duke in a way that no one else really ever has. And that doesn’t even get to how he played the game. He was and remains a sort of ideal Blue Devil And his play in the 2001 national title game - no one has ever worked harder than Battier did in that game. It was the epitome of not leaving anything on the floor if you’ll forgive the use of a hackneyed phrase.

Now, like his former teammate Carlos Boozer twin boys, Battier has a son who is making an impression of his own.

Zeke Battier is a 6-6 prospect in the class of 2027. Last year, at Ransom Everglades in Miami, young Battier put up 24.5 points, 9.3 boards, a steal and a half, 1.0 blocks and 1.3 assists.

Now he’s taking the show to Charlotte where he’ll play for Providence Day. We have no idea what his potential is but would Duke fans embrace him?

Heck yeah.

And it would give a whole new meaning to “who’s your daddy! Battier!”
