The midway point of The Open is here, and some popular names, including DeChambeau and McIlroy, are headed home.

Thirty-six holes remain at The Open Championship, as half the field went home after Friday’s round.

Royal Troon brought the carnage as the wind continued to blow throughout Friday’s round.

Shane Lowry leads the field by two shots at 7-under-par, carding a 2-under 69 to follow up his 5-under 66. He is among 12 players at even par or lower.

These conditions challenged some of the best players in the world.

On this par 71 track, 15 scores were 79 or worse, and Friday's average score was 74.4.

The field made three eagles and 341 birdies in the second round at Royal Troon. There were 609 bogeys and 108 doubles or worse.

To make the weekend for the 152nd Open Championship, the player had to be 6-over or lower.

There are so many popular names that will leave Scotland early. Let’s take a look at who will not play this weekend.

Seeing guys like Rory McIlroy, reigning U.S. Open winner Bryson DeChambeau, Viktor Hovland, and Ludvig Åberg headed home on Friday is shocking.

McIlroy and Åberg tied for fourth at the Genesis Scottish Open just last week, which shows how difficult links golf can be when the weather is not the best.

Tiger Woods missed his third major cut in a row as he struggled on both days.

Keegan Bradley and Akshay Bhatia missed the mark by just one shot.

The Open Championship saw some big-time golfers leave without a check.
