Top-50 prospect Kayden Mingo sets official visits, updates recruitment

By SAM LANCE

Four-star guard Kayden Mingo of Long Island Lutheran (NY) and the PSA Cardinals Nike EYBL AAU program has scheduled official visit dates.

The guard will be traveling to Notre Dame, Penn State, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, Xavier and Georgia. Mingo could not remember all of the exact dates.

“It starts at the end of August and every weekend after that,” Mingo told ZAGSBLOG.

He broke down all of these programs:

Notre Dame: “I like how unselfish they play, how everybody touches the ball every time I see them play. How they’re able to allow their guards to play with freedom and rock whether that’s on the ball or off the ball.”

On head coach Micah Shrewsberry’s message: “He’s just telling me to be myself, and how much I fit their program. Not only as a basketball player, but as a person.”

Penn State: “Yeah, coming from VCU, who I watched a lot. Seeing how well Coach [Mike] Rhoades and everybody does with guards and the experience their guards have in the pros and stuff like that. So that’s another place I feel like I could be for me. It’s just a great program.”

What does Rhoades like about his game?: “He just likes how hard I play, and me as a person I would say. As well as my family a lot.”

Georgia: “Coach [Mike] White, we talk. And coach [Anthony] Goins, we talk a lot about different things, about how I fit with them as well as the SEC. How they let their guards play. And high-level competition and the pro status that coach Mike White also has with former players that he has in the league. And how they let their guards play as well.”

Virginia Tech: “ Coach [Mike] Young talks to me all the time, talks to my family. They’re close to us, so I love the relationship we’re building and the way they play unselfish as well. The ball never sticks with them and everybody touches it, whether it’s on or off the ball.”

Xavier: “Xavier, I like a lot. I know guards, people like Desmond Claude, Trey Green. They compare me to them sometimes and say how my game resembles them and how they believe I’ll fit in and be a good piece to the program.”

Wake Forest: “ Coach [Steve] Forbes is my guy. I would say he definitely lets his guards go. And he has a lot of pro experience as well with different players and stuff like that. And again, the ACC is a real good conference as well. So just the way he allows his guards to play and run the team and be the motor of the squad. I would say I like that a lot.”

As for other schools in the mix?

“Those are the six I would say I’m focusing on, but it’s still open,” Mingo said.

Mingo has a lengthy family history in athletics. His father, William Mingo, played college football at Delaware State and his older brother, Dalique Mingo, played basketball at Howard University from 2014-18. He also has a little brother, Dylan Mingo, who is a five-star in the class of 2026.

Kayden said it’s a possibility he teams up with Dylan in college.

“Yea, we talked about it,” Kayden said. “Not exactly finalized that we’ll team up or not, but we’re both on our routes. So I would say it’s a possibility.”
