Dave McMenamin: Jason Kidd on the criticism Luka Doncic has been receiving: “Give my man a break … He will be better. Hopefully he’s better tonight”
Source: Twitter @mcten

What’s the buzz on Twitter?

Chris Fedor @ChrisFedor
Good for Luka. How a star responds. – 9:41 PM
Nick Wright @getnickwright
The “different approach” with the officials is directly correlated to the fact that tonight when Luka is getting fouled… the officials are calling the foul.
Also, being up 20+ helps. – 9:35 PM
Bobby Manning @RealBobManning
Phenomenal pass by Luka makes it 25. – 9:32 PM
Mike Curtis @MikeACurtis2
Luka Doncic has 21 points in the first half.
Boston has 25 points as a team. – 9:31 PM
Tim Bontemps @TimBontemps
Through 18 minutes, it is:
Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving: 30
Celtics: 25
That’s a good equation for Dallas, to put it mildly. – 9:31 PM
Tim Reynolds @ByTimReynolds
Celtics 25, Luka 21. – 9:31 PM

Law Murray @LawMurrayTheNU
Yeah the Celtics look like they need to get blown out and have two days off and finish this at home.
Heavy minutes to hold on to Game 3. And the leading scorer so far is Luka, the one player among Luka/Kyrie/Tatum/Brown/Holiday/White who didn’t reach 40 minutes Wednesday – 9:29 PM
Dave McMenamin @mcten
Jason Kidd on Luka Doncic during his pregame media remarks tonight: “We are all here to watch him play, right? And so let’s just enjoy it.”
Luka Doncic midway through the 2nd Q tonight: 18 pts on 7-for-13 shooting.
DAL 45, BOS 25 – 9:28 PM
Tim Bontemps @TimBontemps
It’s now a 30-11 run over the last 11 minutes for Dallas, which leads 45-25 after a Luka Doncic jumper that forces another Joe Mazzulla timeout.
Outside of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, the Celtics are 2-for-13. Outside of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, Dallas is 7-for-12. – 9:27 PM
Souichi Terada @SouichiTerada
Doncic and Irving outscoring the Celtics 27-25 midway thru the 2nd quarter. been that kind of night for the C’s – 9:27 PM
Vincent Goodwill @VinceGoodwill
Now it’s Dallas hunting the matchups, playing at their pace, dictating the terms. Luka has finally arrived. 45-25, Celtics can’t get anything going offensively – 9:26 PM
Cameron Tabatabaie @CTabatabaie
Luka puts the Mavericks up 20
But he also looks GASSED – 9:26 PM
Tim Cato @tim_cato
that play was Luka’s version of an alley oop – 9:24 PM
Adam Himmelsbach @AdamHimmelsbach
Two perfect defensive possessions by Tillman against Luka. Mavs are hunting it. – 9:21 PM
Chris Palmer @ChrisPalmerNBA
Where will Luka Doncic finish? Will he be Top 5? He’s only 25. Will he chase Jordan? LeBron? – 9:17 PM
Jared Weiss @JaredWeissNBA
Lively making those deep roll kick outs adds a dimension to Dallas’ offense we haven’t seen in this series. Nobody besides Luka and Kyrie has gotten deep drive and kicks, but Lively is the one guy on the team who has the size and vision to pull it off on the roll. – 9:15 PM
Law Murray @LawMurrayTheNU
Back to back games where Dante Exum wants to get the ball to Luka, Celtics deny Luka, then Exum’s like “fine I’ll do it” – 9:13 PM
A. Sherrod Blakely @ASherrodblakely
Dallas opens with its best start to a FINALS game and leads the Celtics 34-21 after the 1Q.
🏀Luka Doncic: 13 points
🏀Kyrie Irving: 9 points
🏀Jayson Tatum: 11 points
SUPER SUB:
🏀 Dereck Lively II: 5 points, 5 rebounds – 9:10 PM
Sam Vecenie @Sam_Vecenie
Just two very early first impressions from Dallas in 1Q: way more aggressive driving to the rim, and Luka is way more aggressive and engaged on defense. Really good start for Dallas obviously. – 9:09 PM
Law Murray @LawMurrayTheNU
Luka/Kyrie outscored Celtics 22-21 in the first quarter of Game 4 – 9:09 PM
Gary Washburn @GwashburnGlobe
#Celtics started OK but then stopped scoring and couldn’t get stops, trail #Mavericks 34-21 after 1Q. Tatum 11, Brown 4, White 3, Tillman 3; Doncic 13, Irving 9, Lively 5. – 9:08 PM
Stephen Noh @StephNoh
Leave it to Jason Kidd to invent the 7-for-6 – 9:08 PM
Mike Curtis @MikeACurtis2
End of the 1st quarter: #Mavs 34, #Celtics 21.
Doncic: 13 pts, 3 rebs, 1 ast (5-8 FG)
Irving: 9 pts, 2 rebs, 2 asts (4-7 FG)
Lively: 5 pts, 5 rebs – 9:08 PM
Adam Himmelsbach @AdamHimmelsbach
Mavs went +5 during Luka’s 90 seconds on the bench. – 9:08 PM
Tim Bontemps @TimBontemps
After 1: Mavericks 34, Celtics 21
Dallas gets off to a great start, shooting 14-for-24 behind 22 points from Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.
Celtics not named Jayson Tatum are 4-for-14, including 1-for-6 from 3. – 9:07 PM
Kellan Olson @KellanOlson
Doncic and Tatum both playing well at the same time no one move a muscle it’s happening maybe potentially perhaps – 9:03 PM
Bobby Manning @RealBobManning
These could be a costly pair of Doncic FT misses early. – 9:01 PM
Tony Jones @Tjonesonthenba
Just a phenomenal quarter of basketball from Luka Doncic on both ends of the floor. Sensational stuff – 9:00 PM
Law Murray @LawMurrayTheNU
Joe Mazzulla iced Luka… any advantage possible… – 8:58 PM
Souichi Terada @SouichiTerada
lotta Luka already with 10 points and a FT pending here. but the series has also been about how he looks later in the game after a strong start – 8:56 PM
Brad Townsend @townbrad
15-5 Mavericks run, with a free-throw attempt to come for Doncic.
It’s 21-14 Dallas and a certain 7-foot-1 20-year-old has 5 points and 4 rebounds in 5 minutes. And a 3-pointer! – 8:55 PM
Mike Curtis @MikeACurtis2
Dallas has a 21-14 lead over Boston with 4:11 left in the first quarter. Luka Doncic has 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting. – 8:54 PM
Chris Mannix @SIChrisMannix
Mavs actively hunting Boston’s bigs with Doncic. First Horford, now Tillman. Luka off to a terrific start. – 8:53 PM
Bobby Manning @RealBobManning
Like the pair of consecutive screens to line up Luka vs. Tillman there for 3 FT. Haven’t seen many of those. Otherwise it’s mostly been the same approach, with a massive usage, for Doncic early. – 8:53 PM
Mike Curtis @MikeACurtis2
Luka Doncic finds Dereck Lively in the corner for 3?! – 8:50 PM
Bobby Manning @RealBobManning
Brown going at Luka early and hits him with his first foul 5 min. in. His ability to do that and guard him at the point of attack is what made him the heavy FMVP favorite coming into tonight. – 8:46 PM
Tony Jones @Tjonesonthenba
That was great defense there by Doncic on Tatum – 8:44 PM
John Hollinger @johnhollinger
Wrote about how Horford is taking away Luka’s stepback going left, among other tricks, as he battles Dallas’s guards in Boston’s switching scheme. Just saw it a minute ago as he force Luka to take stepback going right.

The only reason anyone is talking about Luka’s defense right now is that his offense was good enough to take the Mavericks two rounds further than anyone thought.
That’s somehow gotten lost here. He’s so good he’s lasted long enough to get criticized in ways other stars haven’t. – 6:02 PM

– Yes he can win titles as is.

During his Friday appearance on The Rich Eisen Show before Game 4 of the NBA Finals, Hill stressed the need for the Dallas Mavericks’ franchise player to “grow up” with regard to how he interacts with officials. “I think one the maturity and the gamesmanship that goes into the interacting with officials, you know you have to pick and choose your spots. If you’re constantly getting on them and getting distracted, and getting caught up in that game within the game then you become a problem,” Hill said. “And we’ve seen that from [Doncic] in the regular season, but we’ve also seen it throughout the playoffs and even in this series. So I think if he can grow up from that standpoint, from a leadership standpoint, not being caught up or consumed in that and just playing the game I think that would help him and it help his teammates.” -via Clutch Points / June 14, 2024
Jay King: Kidd said the Mavericks have started walking the ball up the court during the second or third quarters of games. He credited the Celtics for that. It’s clear, though, that he wants Dallas to play faster deeper into the game. -via Twitter @ByJayKing / June 14, 2024
