The offseason is here and if the Lakers go after a third star which player turns this team into contenders?

Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NBA. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Los Angeles Lakers fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys.

The May grey may be in full effect in Los Angeles, but summer is fast approaching and that brings free agency and trade potential.

The Lakers are reportedly expected to be “aggressive” in the trade market this offseason, which inspired this week’s NBA Reacts survey question: Which third star should the team trade for, Donovan Mitchell, Dejounte Murray, or Trae Young?

Donovan Mitchell’s name has been connected with the Lakers since the beginning of 2024, but now that the offseason is here, it appears the Lakers are reportedly at “front of the line” for a potential Donovan Mitchell trade if he is to become available.

Mitchell still has one year left on his contract, but the Cavaliers want him to sign an extension to ensure he doesn’t go away for nothing in 2025. If he refuses to commit long-term, the Lakers could trade for him and take on that risk that the Cavs may not be willing to.

Mitchell averaged 26.6 points, 5.1 rebounds and 6.1 assists per game while making his fourth All-Star appearance. His arrival on the team would bring a bona fide third star to Los Angeles if LeBron James returns, of course.

The Atlanta Hawks have a pair of guards the Lakers have been mentioned with in Murray and Young.

It’s been reported the most “realistic option” is Young, but this is an ongoing situation, so the most realistic doesn’t mean it’s a foregone conclusion.

Young is a star in every sense of the word, having led the Hawks to the Eastern Conference Finals back in 2021 and has made three All-Star teams in his six-year career.

Young is the nucleus of everything Atlanta does, and having him come to Los Angeles would take some of the responsibility and pressure off him as he would be either the second or third star of the team.

How Murray could fit with the Lakers is interesting as he may not have offensive numbers as big as Mitchell or Young, but he gives you a better defensive floor.

He was in constant trade rumors in deals involving D’Angelo Russell, but the Lakers made no moves and kept the roster the same. Now, they are nearing the time for action and will have an opportunity to make significant changes to the roster to improve their chances of winning another title.

Given these options, which player should the Lakers pursue that will put them in a better place? Vote and share your thoughts below!
