Teams monitoring Julius Randle going on trade block

Run It Back: “Julius Randle, he’s got a player option in 2025…Teams are monitoring this situation for sure, because how [the Knicks] handle that extension situation, if that is a conversation, what transpires, I think that will be interesting.”

What’s the buzz on Twitter?

Scott Perry once told me that for Knicks, it’s about winning 1 title to snap drought. Not a dynasty. So I’d trade that draft capital & Julius Randle for Kevin Durant. Knicks have 2 first-rounders (24-25) next month. KD can lift them to title if Thibs doesn’t run him into ground. – 2:05 PM

Teams are monitoring the potential availability of Julius Randle this offseason, per @ShamsCharania on @RunItBackFDTV.
Randle is eligible for a four-year, $181 million contract extension.
If the Knicks decide not to extend Randle, he could be on the move.

Probably won’t make many Knicks fans feel better right now, but it’s crazy how close they came to the Eastern Conference Finals despite injuries to Julius Randle, Bojan Bogdanovic, Mitchell Robinson, OG Anunoby, Josh Hart and now Jalen Brunson – 5:58 PM

Siakam is the guy the Knicks have no matchup for without Anunoby and/or Randle. Pacers tried to get him going in Game 5 and didn’t really get anywhere. But if they get this guy the rest of the series, huge advantage for them. – 9:35 PM

More on this storyline

Dressed in a gray-hooded sweatsuit, Julius Randle took his seat at the end of the Knicks’ bench Thursday night for the first time since he underwent season-ending shoulder surgery last month. Coach Tom Thibodeau noted the importance of the three-time All-Star’s presence, and being able to share in the team’s first-round ouster of the 76ers in Game 6 in Philadelphia. “It was great, it was great to see him,” Thibodeau said after the win, which sets up a second-round matchup against the Pacers. “You miss the smile. You’re talking about, and people tend to forget because he’s been out for a while, but he’s an All-Star and an All-NBA player. We said it all season long that we knew we couldn’t replace him individually, we had to do it collectively. And that’s what makes the group so good.” -via New York Post / May 4, 2024
Butler to the Knicks in a package for Julius Randle would work, as could OG Anunoby (who’s an impending free agent) and a second significant piece. “I like the Randle idea for Miami, but I’m not sure I like it for New York,” the scout said. With Butler at $48.8 million next season and Randle at $30.3 million, the Knicks would need to include another player or players to make the money commensurate. The Knicks’ inclusion of Bojan Bogdanovic, due to make $19 million in an expiring contract, would make the numbers work on that Butler/Randle hypothetical. -via Miami Herald / May 3, 2024
Hart was asked where the Knicks miss Randle the most. “Oooh, that’s tough. Where do I start?” Hart said. “I mean: he’s an All-Star. He [averaged] 24-9-and-5 or whatever it is, so that playmaking, shot making, is something that we’re missing. It’s funny: when people talk about us they somehow forget the big void we have of 24-and-9 gone. “It’s not like he’s out there with us 70-80 percent. He’s not out there. So that’s something that’s a big void that we knew was gonna be hard to fill; but his playmaking, his shotmaking, his energy is something that we definitely miss.” -via SportsNet New York / May 2, 2024
