Dub Hub: Steph Curry to play in Paris Olympics after Team USA finalizes roster

Rounding up all Warriors and NBA related news for Tuesday, April 16th.

Team USA officially announced their roster for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics. The star-studded lineup is headlined by Golden State Warriors’ point guard Stephen Curry, alongside fellow NBA superstars LeBron James and Kevin Durant.

For Curry, it will be his first experience playing for Team USA as part of the Olympic team, having played for them previously during the FIBA World Cup in 2014.

In that same game that Kuminga lit up the Kings, Barnes lit up the Warriors, scoring a career-high 39 points on 14-of-24 shooting. He made seven 3s and closed the fourth quarter with repetitive post-up scores against Klay Thompson.

The Kings won’t need 39 (or even 25) from Barnes to have a legit shot against the Warriors, but they’ll need his secondary scoring, rebounding and general effort, especially with Monk and Huerter out. When Barnes has a noticeable impact on the game, the Kings are a different team.

Sounds a lot like the Warriors and Wiggins, another talented wing whose impact tends to fluctuate from high-level to invisible. If either of the two plays significantly better than the other, the equation completely changes.

“I think the main thing, honestly, that I remember, was shaking [Kings coach] Mike Brown’s hand afterward,” Kerr told reporters at Warriors practice Monday. “You get to these elimination games and play and compete against people you’re really close with.

“There’s a sense of elation when you win, but you know your good friend is struggling and it hurts. Those moments are always really difficult when you coach against a great friend.”

Thunder’s Mark Daigneault is NBCA’s NBA coach of the year | ESPN

Daigneault delivered the youngest team in modern league history (an average of 24 years old) to the Western Conference’s No. 1 seed and decisively won the NBCA voting among his head-coaching peers.

Each NBA head coach votes for a single winner in the award named for the late Michael Goldberg. Also receiving votes: Cleveland’s J.B. Bickerstaff, Minnesota’s Chris Finch, Boston’s Joe Mazzulla and Orlando’s Jamahl Mosley.

“It is humbling to be chosen for this honor by my peers, for whom I have a great deal of respect and admiration,” Daigneault said in a statement. “Our team’s success this season has been driven by a group of talented players, whose commitment and competitiveness has been uncommon. Coaching them is a privilege.”

Beyond some of the Spurs’ own selections (including a high lottery pick in June), San Antonio has several selections from the Hawks for Murray to give back, including firsts in 2025 and 2027 (along with swap rights in 2026). The Spurs have the Toronto Raptors (top-7 protected through 2026) and Charlotte Hornets (a top-15 protected in 2025)—both convey as a pair of seconds if protections are met. The Chicago Bulls owe San Antonio a first in 2025 (initially top-11 protected, then top-9 through 2027, else a second in 2028). The Spurs also have swap rights in 2028 with the Boston Celtics (top-1 protected), Dallas Mavericks in 2030, and plenty of second-rounders over the next eight years (approximately 18).

The market would set the amount San Antonio is willing to give up, but if the Hawks want draft compensation, the Spurs outclass most of the league in draft assets (especially the Lakers).

Warriors won’t have GPII for play-in game

GPII’s calf strain will keep him out of the Warriors’ quixotic quest for the No. 8 seed this week. He won’t play Tuesday against the Kings, nor will he play Friday against the New Orleans Pelicans or Los Angeles Lakers, should the Warriors get past their NorCal neighbors.

Injuries have limited Payton to just 44 games this season. He’s missed games due to problems with his fingers, feet, calves, ankles, and hamstrings this year, as well as two different illnesses. Payton has been a little less effective offensively this season due to a slight downturn in his shooting, but he’s been a huge positive on the defensive end.
