Ohio U Match

The first thing you need to know about Ohio U is their head coach is in his second go around with the program just like Horsmon. Geoff Carlston built a MAC powerhouse in his first era at Ohio U before leaving for tOSU where he made 6 sweet 16s in 12 years. This is a very well coached team in Carlson’s 2nd year back.
They lost their first match of the season but have won four-straight since. They will be more rested than UD and ready to knock us off. Their Senior Libero won the MAC DPOW and their Grad student Setter SOW in Week 1. Those two take the vast majority of 1st and 2nd touches, so we have got to be ready to defend.
They’ve got a good Setter and Libero, but can their hitters terminate? I think we’ve got a really good group of top 5 hitters. We played tougher competition in week 1. But their group of hitters are scoring more points. That includes more kills, blocks and service aces. Both teams have played 20 sets. Their top 5 in points/set:
#12 O’Farrell - 6’4” Grad MB, 3.85 pts/set
#8 Khachynska - 6’3” Soph opp, 3.68
#21 Kildliw - 6’1” Fr OPP, 3.54
#23 Hunt - 6’1” OH, 3.11
#15 Clippara - 6’0” OH, 2.39
UDs Top 5
Lexie - 4.5 but 3.75 & 3.0 this weekend with a thigh injury/going 3 rotations
Taylor - 3.63
Yates - 2.73
Moore - 2.6
Sarkissian - 1.2
Both teams have hitters that can terminate. Theirs are averaging 3.41/set. Ours are averaging 2.93 against a tougher schedule.
Blocking - Ohio at 2.6/set. UD at 2.4/set.
Aces - Ohio at 1.35/set. UD at 1.9/set.
SEs - even. Both teams have played 20 sets. Ohio 50 SEs. UD 51.
On paper it looks like a very even match with Ohio maybe having a slight edge, but against weaker competition. That’s why they play the matches. It’s going to be a battle.
