WBBL Trophy First Round weekend (Streams & recaps)
The WBBL Trophy adopts a new format for the 2022-23 season with four invitational teams making up a 16-team field.
The first round takes place this weekend with all games being held at the Essex Sports Arena with four games each on Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday 7th January, 2023
Brent Bulls v London Lions – 11am
DID YOU KNOW? Brent head coach Tope Alli-Balogun was the former assistant coach at London, while the WBBL club’s physiotherapist Wura Ijelu has also been part of the Bulls’ playing roster this season.
Durham Palatinates v Cardiff Met Archers – 1:30pm
STAT: Judit Fritz holds the single-game scoring record in WBBL Trophy history with 40 points for Cardiff Met Archers during the 2017-18 season. No player has scored more in any competition.
Essex Rebels v Sevenoaks Suns – 4pm
STAT: This will be the 15th meeting between the two teams in WBBL competition, but Essex are yet to beat Sevenoaks including in three previous encounters in the Trophy.
Caledonia Gladiators v Thames Valley Cavaliers – 6:30pm
Sunday 8th January, 2023
Oaklands Wolves v Leicester Riders – 11am
STAT: Riders have won the competition more than any team with three consecutive titles from 2018-2020.
Manchester Met Mystics v City of London Academy – 1:30pm
UPSET ALERT? The reigning WNBL D1 champions – with a roster made up of U19 talents – take on the struggling Mystics, who are still searching for their first win of the season.
Newcastle Eagles v Nottingham Wildcats – 4pm
Sheffield Hatters v Ipswich Basketball – 6:30pm
DID YOU KNOW?: GB U18 duo Charlie Wroe (Sheffield) and Olivia Forster (Ipswich) were former teammates at Manchester and both represented the Mystics in WBBL Trophy action.
