Dayton played a scoreless game on the fast carpet at Loyola this afternoon. The Ramblers were 5-2-3 (1-2-1) so a solid side. After the disappointing 1-1 draw at St Bonnie earlier in the week, this was a chance to salvage the two-game road swing. Not to be.
Unlike SBU however where UD was by far the better team, UD and Loyola were matched very evenly in this one. Lots of good defense and not a lot of offense. Not very much separated these two teams in both possession, tactics, and individual dynamism. Caetano was very good in goal for Dayton and did what he needed to do in his goal box including stepping out to clear balls away with is head and feet on Loyola breakaways.
With two ties this weekend, I suspect UD will fall out of the national rankings and that's fair. A #16 team needed to win these two games - or at least go 1-0-1. Big one coming up at #3 Kentucky. We will get beat unless we get back to the fast play and sense of urgency.
