Sports briefs: Archie Williams’ Amborn scores 33 in victory

Freshman Carly Amborn, fresh off starring as Archie Williams’ No. 1 singles player in tennis, dropped 33 points as the girls basketball team rolled to a 69-28 road victory against Santa Rosa on Thursday.

Jada Shore and Margaret Young scored eight points apiece, with Shore adding nine steals and Young pulling down six rebounds.

Jessie Gauna contributed five assists, five steals and four points in the win.

  • Ambelia Rodas scored 15 points and Ellie Diaz added 12 as San Rafael opened the season with a 66-20 road victory against Richmond on Thursday. Senior point guard Briana Muschi also had a strong game.

Girls soccer

Goalie Dylan Moayedi saved a penalty kick in the 70th minute then Noelia Gramajo netted a late winner as San Rafael defeated De Anza 1-0 on Thursday night.

Gramajo scored in the 79th minute on an assist by Camryn Royston.

Women’s volleyball

College of Marin qualified for the CCCAA playoffs for the first time in program history after being selected as the 19th seed by the committee on Thursday.

The Mariners (18-9) open on the road against No. 14 De Anza (11-12) in a first-round matchup at 7 p.m. on Saturday in Cupertino.

Former Terra Linda High standout Rachel Reher led the team in kills this season with 205. Reher also placed second on the team in digs (205) and third in assists (95).

Women’s basketball

Jordan Charlton scored a career-high 15 points as Dominican University held off Cal State Monterey Bay, 63-58, on Thursday night.

Top scorer Riley Friauf had 20 points and six assist for the Penguins (3-1). Abreanna Lake had five steals. Charlton shot 7 of 10 from the field and added four assists.

Dominican extended to a 10-point lead with about 4 minutes left on a jumper by Friauf then held off Monterey Bay the rest of the way.
