Miami Heat vs. Portland Trail Blazers News and Notes

Miami lists five players on the injury report: Tyler Herro (foot), Gabe Vincent (knee), and DeWayne Dedmon (not injury related) will be game-time decisions, while Victor Oladipo (knee) and KZ Okpala (COVID-19 protocols) have been ruled out.

Portland lists one player on the injury report: Zach Collins is ruled out until May with an ankle injury.

Notable Trends

  • The total is 4-0 to the over in Miami’s last four games.
  • The total is 4-0 to the over in Miami four games when their opponent allowed at least 100 points in their previous game.
  • The total is 5-1 to the over in their last six meetings.

Miami Heat vs. Portland Trail Blazers Predictions and Picks

I think there’s a bit of an overreaction to the total for this game with Victor Oladipo ruled out for Miami. When you play Portland, you almost have to adjust your play to theirs because they shoot so many three-pointers.

Portland is second in the league in three-point attempts (42.3), and they’re second with 16.1 three-point field goals made per game. That sums up to a 38.1 three-point percentage which is good enough for sixth in the league. With Portland shooting as many three-pointers as they do, teams can’t justify settling for two-point shots.

I’m not sure how Miami will be able to slow Portland down from behind the three-point line considering that they’re ranked 27th in allowing 14.6 three-pointers per game.

We should also consider some of the over trends coming into this game, but here’s another nugget I discovered during my research: The total has gone under in Portland’s last two games, but after 52 games this season, the Trail Blazers have yet to go under the total in three straight games.

I like that angle at work here, and after running my projections, my model has a total of 226.81 points for the game. That’s a five-point edge, and that’s certainly good enough to get me to the window for a play on the over.

The Pick: Over 221.5
