[Men's Volleyball] MVB Conference Honors Released
SYLVANIA, Ohio - (COMPLETE HONORS) - The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) released its 2021 Men's Volleyball honors in conjunction with the conference tournament. Lourdes and Indiana Tech tied for the regular-season title and both had individual award winners.
Outside hitter Jeff Lam of Lourdes received Player of the Year for the second time in his career. The senior notched 209 kills (.323 hitting percentage), had 109 digs, and 20 blocks in leading the Gray Wolves to a 10-2 league record and ranks first in the NAIA with 43 serving aces. Indiana Tech head coach Kyle Shondell was voted Coach of the Year by his colleagues after leadint the Warriors to a 10-2 WHAC record and a share of the conference title.
Siena Heights picked up two of the individual awards. Joudiel Poveymirow was named Libero of the Year 271 digs for a 4.5 set average, which ranks first in the NAIA. The junior also had 45 assists. Keegan Crawford dished up 10.3 assists per set for Setter of the Year. The senior also had 139 digs and 21 service aces.
Mount Vernon Nazarene also had a pair earn individual honors. Freshman Spence Stanley was awarded Newcomer of the Year after recording 231 kills, 100 digs, and 27 blocks this season. Head coach Doug Sherer was named Champions of Character Coach for his commitment to the five core character values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership.
First Team All-Conference, Second Team All-Conference, and All-Freshman Team were awarded. All-Academic (juniors or above in academic standing with 3.25 cumulative GPA and at nominating school for one full year) and Champions of Character Team (one player from each school who best exemplifies the five core character values) were also announced.
All-Conference and All-Freshman honors were not handed out last year due to the season being cut short because of COVID.
