Anthony Davis has been named an All-Star for the eighth time in his career, but it’s looking like he’ll have to sit this one out.

Anthony Davis hasn’t played his basketball this season. That’s hardly a secret. He also hasn’t been his healthiest, which is a big part of the reason he’s underperformed this season. But despite those things, he’s one of the best players in the league and the Los Angeles Lakers are a better team when he plays — like, by a lot.

For those reasons, Davis was voted an All-Star reserve once again this season. This marks Davis’ eighth time being voted an All-Star and the fifth time being voted an All-Star reserve. Davis was a starter last season, the 2017-18 season and the 2016-17 season.

Here are the full result courtesy of Shams Charania of The Athletic:

Unfortunately, the early indications are that Davis won’t be available for All-Star Weekend this year. On Thursday, Frank Vogel announced that he expects to be without his star forward for at least four weeks due to a calf strain and re-aggravated Achilles tendinosis. The All-Star game is set to take place in less than two weeks on March 7. The hope is that the All-Star game is the last big game Davis will have to miss, though.

Obviously the Lakers would like to finish the season as the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference and have home court advantage in the postseason, but the most important thing is that the team is at full strength when the postseason starts and right now, Davis is their No. 1 concern. Davis has missed nine games this season, which is as many as he missed all of last season.

Besides, Davis is only 27 years old; he has plenty of other All-Star appearances to look forward to. Championship windows don’t stay open nearly as long, which is why it’s important that he takes his time to get healthy.
