The Lakers might be looking at Glenn Robinson III as they look to make their final moves of NBA free agency.

As things stand right now, the Lakers only have a few roster spots left to hand out in free agency (likely three remaining, provided Anthony Davis re-signs and Alfonso McKinnie is kept, as he is expected to be). We already know that the team is looking for another center in free agency so they don’t have to overtax Anthony Davis at the five, but if the team wants one more body on the wing, they could do a lot worse than Glenn Robinson III.

Robinson averaged 7.7 points on 51.8% shooting with the Philadelphia 76ers last season, but is widely seen as having been miscast by the Sixers after being acquired from the Golden State Warriors at the trade deadline, and at age 26, he would at least give the Lakers another option to get a little younger this offseason — something the team has already done a bit while adding Montrezl Harrell (26) and Dennis Schröder (27) to replace Dwight Howard and Rajon Rondo (both 34).

The good news, then, is that according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the Lakers are in the process of pursuing Robinson:

Glenn Robinson III, one of the top wings remaining on the market, has drawn interest from the Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, Houston Rockets, Brooklyn Nets, and Utah Jazz, league sources told HoopsHype.

Robinson is likely a player that wouldn’t be counted on a ton this season, as the Lakers will have LeBron James, Kyle Kuzma, Wesley Matthews, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and (maybe) Talen Horton-Tucker and McKinnie to soak up wing minutes, but they could use at least one more larger body there to throw at players or as insurance, or even just to use on nights when James or others are out for some load management. You can never have enough wings in the modern NBA.

This isn’t some make-or-break signing, and maybe Robinson could get a bigger role or more money elsewhere and seize that, but he would be a decent fringe rotation guy to add as an extra cherry on top of an already excellent offseason from Rob Pelinka and Co.
