Siena's Pickett earns an All-America honor

Siena sophomore guard Jalen Pickett was named Wednesday to the Lou Henson All-America men's basketball team. He's one of 40 players on the team, chosen by a 30-menber panel, which covers 22 conferences that play at the Division I mid-major level.

The Rochester native, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Year, led the MAAC champions in scoring (15.1 points per game) and the league in assists (6.0 per game).

Award: RPI women's lacrosse player Liz Brady was named a collegiate award recipient for 2020 by the Capital District Sports Women of the Year class. Brady, a senior from Bradford, Mass., broke the team record for assists with 36 for RPI in the spring of 2019 after having ACL surgery. Brady also had a 3.55 GPA in the fall semester and will be recognized at the CDSWOY Awards Gala at 6:30 p.m. May 12 at the GE Theatre at Proctors in Schenectady.

College basketball: Players planning to turn pro include Dayton's Obi Toppin, Kansas State's Cartier Diarra and USC's Onyeka Okongwu.

NBA: Timberwolves center Karl-Anthony Towns said his mother, Jacqueline Cruz, is in the hospital and currently in a medically induced coma as she battles COVID-19.

NFL: Commissioner Roger Goodell instructed the 32 teams to close facilities to all but a select few employees. ... The Jets and ex-Ravens linebacker Patrick Onwuasor reportedly agreed to terms on a one-year deal. ... The Panthers officially signed quarterback Teddy Bridgewater to a three-year contract.
