[SAU Bees] Fifteen Bees named to academic all-CCAC basketball teams
A total of 15 St. Ambrose basketball student-athletes were recognized when the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference announced its winter sports all-academic selections Wednesday morning. The conference honored a total of 111 men's and women's basketball players representing each of the 15 member schools.
St. Ambrose tied for the conference lead with 10 women's basketball players on the list - Maddy Cash, Cassidy Darin, Madi Epperson, Charlotte Flynn, Sarah Goldensoph, Colleen Grady, Gabrielle Koelker, Abby Lownik, Jamie Martens and Madeline Prestegaard.
The SAU men's team added five players - Hunter Fettkether, Tom Kazanecki, Isaac Meenan, Ben Schols and Michael Williams.
St. Ambrose finished third in the conference with its 15 selections. Olivet Nazarene led the way with 19 total while Saint Xavier had 16. Cardinal Stritch matched St. Ambrose with 15.
Also making the Top Five was the University of St. Francis with nine honorees followed by both Holy Cross College and Indiana University Northwest with six selections each.
Earning five spots on the team each were Calumet College of St. Joseph and Saint Xavier University, with Indiana University South Bend and Trinity International University gaining four slots each.
Other schools represented were Judson University, Roosevelt University and Trinity Christian College with three awardees each, Governors State University with two and Robert Morris University Illinois with one.
Just under half of the overall awardees were repeat selections. A total of 56 individuals gained that distinction, with 19 of those being three-peat picks. Four basketball student-athletes also earned perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point averages.
To be nominated for one of the five teams, a student-athlete must have been enrolled at their respective CCAC school for a minimum of one academic year, have completed at least 30 semester hours and boast no less than a 3.25 cumulative grade point average.
