[Men's Basketball] Vontangoe Donzo Named First Team All-American
Williamson junior forward Vontango Donzo was named to the 2020 United States Collegiate Athletic Association's First Team All-American squad on Monday morning. He joins a long list of Williamson basketball All-Americans during Coach Bill Michaels' 17-year tenure.
Donzo led the nation in blocked shots, averaging an astounding 6.6 blocks per game. He finished second in the nation in rebounding, averaging 13.6 rebounds per game. He also finished in the Top10 in scoring, coming in at 20.2 points per game, while coming in at sixteenth in the nation in field goal percentage at 54.7 percent. He also averaged 1.6 assists and 1.9 steals per game on the year.
"Tango (Vontangoe) worked extremely hard to develop his game last Summer and it showed. He showed everyone what hard work can do and that he truly is one of the top players in the country," shared Michaels.
"We are hopeful our younger players will follow his lead and work as hard as he does this coming off-season to develop their games as well. If so, several of those guys could join him on that list next year. "
Donzo's play helped lead Williamson to a 15-11 overall record, as the team won nine out of their last ten games to close the season.
