Three Weeks!

0 23

Opening Day, aka the greatest day of the year, is in sight. 21 days from now we will have real games and real boxscores to feast on. This is the official end of winter in my mind. We get to spend the next three weeks feasting on college basketball tournaments and then baseball shows up.

For the Yankees, the biggest question remaining is who will be healthy enough to head north? We can already eliminate three players- Hicks, Paxton, and Severino. It certainly sounds like Stanton won’t be back in time. Aaron Judge seems to be headed down that path as well. Throw in a suspension to Domingo German and it’s not outrageous to suggest that the Yankees will open the season with their entire outfield and three-fifths of their starting rotation on the IL.

This is all survivable, but the cushion is getting smaller by the day. The Yankees have options to fill these injuries. Brett Gardner, Mike Tauchman, and Clint Frazier, are the starters in the outfield. JA Happ, Jordan Montgomery, and probably Loaisiga are the new starters. They’re not as good as the guys they are replacing, but they are good enough when you consider the rest of the 26-man roster. The problem is, the depth gets shaky after this.

Three weeks I can’t wait!
