How many fans are still left?
Many fans have all but abandoned the franchise as the future looks unfathomably bleak. After three championships and the greatest team of all time, we find ourselves suddenly the worst team in the NBA (maybe for years to come). How did we get here? How do we get out of this mess?
Coaching
As I have said for years, Steve Kerr has no idea what he is doing. 12-42 entering the All-Star break? ZERO All-Stars? I get it, the roster isn't up to par. But if he can't win games without superstars is he a good coach? Mark Jackson was robbed of his job back in 2014. Perhaps we should bring him back to replace Kerr. In fact, we know that Mark Jackson can handle adversity. He was never handed a dynasty like Kerr was. We also have Draymond sitting out games as he pleases. I can't help but look at the coaching staff and see they have no backbone. Someone who just signed a 100 million dollar extension should be giving it his all night in and night out. Kerr should be fired immediately to save this franchise.
Kevin Durant
We. Were. Warned. This man traded his dignity for an NBA title. Of course none of us were complaining at the time, we already had the greatest team of all time, why not add the best player in the NBA? I fear it may prove to be a bad move long term. As soon as he signed the entire NBA knew another title was coming for the Warriors. It was never in doubt. But was that move a curse? It felt unnatural. A title that year was something we could have accomplished without KD. Now I fear it may be our last for years to come.
Moving Forward
Building off what I said earlier, Draymond must go. Its a large contract, but I'm sure someone will be willing to trade for one of the NBA's better players (even though he's shown he gives up on losing teams). Kerr should be replaced with either the familiar Mark Jackson, or someone of similar caliber. Build the team around Steph and cut the fat. Steph is the face of the franchise and we need to keep it that way. If I could take back the D-Lo trade I would. Front-office seems committed to losing for the time being.
This cannot be the new normal! For a franchise so accustomed to winning, a season like this is unacceptable. I expect Rick Welts to step up to the plate and clean house if he needs to. New coach and new stars next year will get us right back to it. For now, W's up.
