[Men's Basketball] Butler, Tshiona record double-doubles in Cavs' fourth straight win
MONTREAT, N.C. – Two Cavaliers recorded double-doubles Monday afternoon as men's basketball pushed its win streak to four games with an 85-72 victory over Welch College inside McAlister Gymnasium. The Cavs currently sit at 9-3 overall with one more game before heading into Christmas break.
Free throws and 3-pointers made the difference in the first half as both teams hit 15 shots from the field, but six of those were behind the arc for Montreat. The Cavs also shot 7-for-9 from the charity stripe in the first half to enter the break up 43-33.
A 10-0 run midway through the second half would give the Cavs their largest lead of the day at 19 points. The Flames would cut their deficit to 10 points over the next three and a half minutes, but Daniel Coldiron's 3-pointer with just over two minutes remaining pushed Montreat's lead back to 19 before taking the win by 13 points to advance their streak with a double-digit victory margin to four games.
Eric Reed led the game in scoring with 21 points as well as in assists with six. Austin Butler posted his first double-double of the season with 20 points and a career-high 12 rebounds while Victor Tshiona joined him with his second double-double of the year featuring 18 points and 12 rebounds.
Up Next: The Cavs return to Appalachian Athletic Conference action Wednesday, Dec. 18 at St. Andrews University where they will close out the 2019 leg of the season. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. ET.
